Grasshopper was written for Baroque Winds as part of the 2023 University of Melbourne chamber group exams. Scored for a historically informed wind ensemble in Valotti temperament.

The work playfully navigates the relationship between historical and contemporary approaches to improvisation, drawing from both Baroque ornamentation practices and modern exploratory techniques. Throughout the piece, stylistic elements shift fluidly, weaving between idiomatic Baroque gestures and freer, more spontaneous textures.
